Bio Diesel is the 'green' eco-friendly alternative to fossil Diesel fuel. Consider these environmentally friendly facts about Bio Diesel.
Bio Diesel has significantly lower toxicity, better biodegradability, and a higher flash point than fossil diesel fuels. Bio Diesel is less toxic than table salt (sodium chloride) and less irritating to the skin than soap. The flash point of fossil diesel is approximately 52 deg. Celsius while Bio Diesel has a much higher flash point of approximately 151 deg. Celsius.
Bio Diesel degrades by 91% in the first twenty-one days.
Bio Diesel degrades at the same rate as Dextrose, a test sugar used as the positive control when testing biodegradability. Bio Diesel degrades about four to five times faster than fossil diesel fuels and can be used as a solvent to aid in the cleaning up of fossil diesel fuel spills. The biodegradability of Bio Diesel makes it particularly well suited to use in ecologically sensitive areas such as inland waterways, unprotected ground excavations, agricultural land and the forest or wildlife environment.

Part 7 of The Bio fuels and Other Fuel Substitutes (Payment of
Excise Duties etc) Regulations 2004 allows relief from duty on Bio fuels used
for electricity generation.
This relief applies to all Bio fuels; it is not restricted solely to those
that meet the Biodiesel/Bioethanol specification.
During the autumn and winter months steps may need to be taken to stop the bio diesel fuel from clouding, gelling and eventually setting, ultimately starving the generator of fuel.
As the ambient temperature drops towards 0°C the bio diesel will start to cloud (dependent on feedstock of the fuel). As the temperature continues to fall below -5°C the bio diesel fuel starts to gel together.
If your generator is running for prime power, and drawing bio diesel fuel from the base tank, then this issue is avoided, as the heat from the engine will keep the ambient temperature above freezing.
If you are planning to run from an external fuel tank, then JS Power Limited can supply a large range of fuel tanks with heating elements built into the unit. These heaters will keep the bio diesel running so your generator will run in the coldest of British winters.
A stand-by bio diesel generator will face different issues than a prime power generator.
As the engine is not constantly running, providing heat to the internal fuel tank, then heating elements can be fitted to the fuel tank(s) so the bio diesel will still flow in the coldest snap.
As all our Eco-Gen range of bio diesel generators are capable of running any blend of regular / bio diesel fuel, (from 100% bio diesel to 100% regular diesel) another option is to ‘blend’ your fuel. Having a mix of 20% Bio diesel and 80% diesel fuel will let the fuel flow even when (dependent on the mix) the temperature drops to -25°C.
If you prefer to have a 100% bio diesel fuel mix, then with one
of our external fuel tanks we can supply heating elements built in, to prevent
this from happening. The fuel is kept at just the right temperature so your
generator will continue to run in the coldest of British winters.
The EN14214 Bio Diesel fuel standard is the international standard that was agreed to for the quality and integrity of Bio Diesel as a fuel.
The EN14214 standard dictates what amount of water, flash point, viscosity, sulphur, etc which is allowed within the fuel.
The EN14214 standard is a derivate of the German DIN 51606 Standard which is the highest standard in the world regarding Bio Diesel Fuel.
Compared to Gas Oil fuel, Bio diesel emits less greenhouse gasses, with only an increase in NO emissions.
