Why do I need a generator set?
There are three general reasons why home owners and businesses choose to purchase
generator sets:
What is kVA and is it the same as KW?
No. kVA stands for Kilo Volt Amperes and is the true power produced by a generator.
KW (or Kilowatts) is the actual power that is used.
I am interested in Bio Diesel generators. What are the advantages
of it over regular Diesel Generators?
Please click on the Bio Diesel button at the top of the screen then click on
the links at the left side of the page.
Why do I need a UPS if I have a generator?
From when Mains power fails to the generator starts, takes approximately 15
seconds for the generator to start and provide power. This time lag although
not a great length of time can be fatal for computers and networks in an office
environment.
Why should I buy a JS Power generator?
If you buy a JS Power generator, our experience of diesel and bio diesel generators
can assure you of a reliable source of power 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,
365 days a year.
Our sets are built to the highest standards and all go through rigorous testing
before being released to the market place. We design and manufacture generators
to meet individual customer requirements.
What type of generator set do I need?
JS Power Limited offers generator sets to provide prime power and standby power.
We sell diesel and bio diesel generators from as small as 10 kVA (Diesel) and
30kVA (Bio Diesel) that are ideal for domestic and small retail properties up
to sets as large as 2,000 kVA (Diesel) and 500kVA (Bio Diesel) that can provide
power for complete communities. Our generators can be started either manually
or automatically and can be provided as open sets, canopied sets and containerised
sets. There is also the option to have the generator mounted on a trailer if
it needs to be transportable.
The type of generator that you need will vary depending on what it is required to power, where it will be installed and whether it is needed to run continuously or only when there is a power outage.
How do I know what size of generator set to purchase for
my premises?
There is no single correct answer to this question. The size of generator set
required will depend on a number of individual factors. An Electrical Engineer
will be able to help you identify the kVA or wattage rating for all the equipment
and appliances on your premises that would be required to be powered by the
generator. This combined will then provide you with details of the size of generator
that is most suitable for your needs.
What do I need to know when installing a generator set?
The following all need to be considered when you are thinking of installing
a generator set:
How does a generator set work with the mains electricity
supply?
Constant mains electricity is supplied into premises via electrical cabling.
When this mains electricity is disrupted due to power failures, a signal is
sent from the transfer switch to the generator set which then starts up the
generator and when the electrical supply from it is stable, sends generated
electricity back into the premises. When the mains supply is restored and stable
the transfer switch reverts back to the mains and sends a signal to the generator
to go back into standby mode.
What is an Automatic transfer switch?
A transfer switch is a panel that is wired into the premises electrical distribution
system to allow a generator to be used. It detects a loss in power for the mains
and initiates the generator to start up and provide power. It then waits until
the power from the mains returns to normal. It then puts your premises back
onto mains power and signals the generator to cool down and return to standby
mode.
How long will a generator run on its internal tank of fuel?
The amount of time that a generator will run on a tank of fuel depends on the
size of the tank and the load required from the generator. Each of our generators
comes with a minimum of 9 hours (unless stated otherwise) run time at maximum
load. With an external fuel tank, this run time can be extended even further.
When and how do I service and maintain my generator set?
The frequency and type of service required to maintain a JS Power generator
set will depend on a number of things including the usage of the generator,
the environment that it operates in and the percentage load that it carries.
A full service including a change of such things as filters and lubricating
oil should be carried out every twelve months. Most failures to start-up are
the result of the set not having been regularly serviced. We recommend that
you check your generator once a week.
Where can I get parts for my generator set?
JS Power can supply all parts for the generators we sell.
